SLASH Jams With ZZ TOP In Hollywood; Video Footage, Photos Available

August 23, 2009

VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash and John Mayer joined ZZ TOP on stage on Friday, August 21 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California to perform the songs "LaGrange" and "Tush".

Commented Slash: "That was a gas [Friday] night. Billy [Gibbons] was phenomenal and John Mayer is a pretty bad-ass player as well."

Video footage of the performance can be viewed below. Photos are available at this location.

In light of the recently announced cancellation of AEROSMITH/ZZ TOP tour dates, ZZ TOP is mounting a tour of its own. Routing will take ZZ TOP to many of the markets that had been on that cancelled tour's itinerary, giving fans a second chance, in a manner of speaking, to see the band after all.

AEROSMITH dropped out of the tour due to injuries sustained by front man Steven Tyler. When it became apparent that the dates they were scheduled to share with AEROSMITH were in jeopardy, ZZ TOP band members — Billy F. Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard — consulted with management and came up with a plan to get the show back on the road as soon as possible.

"We, like so many fans, are disappointed that we're not going to be out with AEROSMITH and we wish Steven a speedy recovery," said ZZ TOP's Dusty Hill.

ZZ's Billy Gibbons chimed in, "As musicians, we sometimes have to improvise and that's exactly what this tour is about. We're going to get out there as quickly as possible and to play for people who want to come to a 'down 'n' dirty' rock and roll show — no frills and no holds barred."

"When we found out that the tour was going to be cancelled, we got together and decided that since we're ready, willing and able, we should get out there immediately and get it on and that's exactly what we intend to do," said Frank Beard of the decision to move on.
